Step back in time with this extraordinary traditional German Advent calendar, featuring a charming snow-covered village and a design that holds a very special place in the history of Christmas traditions.
Made in Germany by Richard Sellmer Verlag, a family-owned company renowned for its beautiful Advent calendars,The Little Town is a particularly treasured design.Originally created in 1946, it is considered the very first Advent calendar produced by Richard Sellmer Verlag, making it a wonderful piece of German Christmas history.
This nostalgic illustration depicts a picturesque European village, with a delightful row of snow-covered houses, quaint little shops, a charming church and softly glowing windows. From the village post office and bakery to the tiny Christmas market stalls, every building is filled with old-world character and beautiful details waiting to be discovered.
What makes this calendar especially wonderful is itsunique panoramic design. Measuring approximately 70 cm wide, the long row of beautifully illustrated buildings can be displayed standing on a mantel or windowsill, or hung on a wall or door, creating a lovely Christmas decoration in its own right.
Each of the 24 numbered windows opens to reveal a delightful little illustration. The hidden pictures are particularly special, offering glimpses into the lives of the villagers and the festive activities taking place inside their homes and shops.
Even more charming, the illustrations on the reverse allow light to shine through the opened windows when the calendar is placed in front of a light source, creating a beautiful, softly glowing village scene.
Delicate silver glitter adds a little Christmas sparkle, while the original 1946 artwork preserves the simple beauty and nostalgia of a Christmas tradition that has been loved for generations.
A truly special piece of German Christmas history to treasure year after year.
