This is such a beautiful winter cushion, and I love that it feels festive without being overly Christmas-y. The centre features a large cream boiled-wool snowflake appliqué set against the lovely Christmas Rose Angels fabric, creating a soft, almost storybook winter scene.
The snowflake is fused in place and then hand stitched around the edges with a delicate split stitch, giving it that wonderful handmade Acufactum look. You can leave it beautifully simple or add a little extra stitching, sequins and tiny seed beads for sparkle — the book shows these embellishments as an optional way to make the snowflake catch the light.
Around the outside is a softly gathered anthracite-and-white striped ruffle, which I think is such a lovely finishing detail. The darker stripe frames the pale snowflake beautifully and gives the cushion just enough contrast while still keeping the overall look soft and wintery.
The back of the cushion is finished with a zipper, so the cover can easily be removed from the pillow form. Acufactum describes the design as a sparkling snowflake drifting down against delicate Christmas roses, framed by the gently gathered striped ruffle — and that really does capture the feel of this project perfectly.
