This cushion is such a lovely companion to the Winter Time Quilt, using the same beautiful mix of fabrics and colours in a smaller project that would be gorgeous on a chair, bench or tucked into a cozy winter corner.
The front is made from 24 little patchwork squares cut from coordinating Emma, Dots and Watercolor fabrics. They are arranged into neat rows and sewn using a clever interfacing method that helps keep all of those little squares perfectly aligned without distortion.
Across the front is a soft Watercolor Taupe panel embellished with the beautiful Acufactum Robins woven ribbon. The narrow decorative band breaks up the patchwork beautifully and gives the cushion that extra little detail that makes Acufactum projects feel so special. Fusible fleece is added behind the completed front, and the patchwork is then topstitched around each square to add lovely texture and definition.
The back is made from the coordinating Wintertime Stripes fabric and finished with a zipper. Because of the layers of patchwork and quilting on the front, the book cleverly places the zipper in the back of the cushion rather than along the bottom seam.
I really love this one because it has the look of a much more involved patchwork project while still being very manageable. The combination of the little squares, soft quilting and woven robin ribbon gives it such a warm European country feel — and of course it coordinates beautifully with the Winter Time Quilt.
