This is such a beautiful way to combine cross stitch and sewing in one project. The Christmas Rose Cushion features the delicate Christmas Rose cross-stitch design stitched onto white evenweave linen and framed with Acufactum's lovely Christmas Rose Angels fabric.
The long rectangular shape gives the embroidery plenty of room to shine. The stitched linen forms a feature panel across the front, with coordinating Christmas Rose Angels fabric pieced on either side. It has the feel of a little piece of stitched artwork turned into something useful and beautiful for your home.
The Christmas Rose itself is such a special design. The chart measures 60 × 126 stitches, finishing at approximately 4½" × 8⅞" when stitched as shown in the book. One especially lovely detail is the tiny figure tucked inside the flower bulb; the figure and surrounding stitches are worked in petit point, adding beautiful fine detail to the finished embroidery.
The cushion is constructed in the same style as the Autumn Cushion earlier in the book, with the embroidered linen pieced between coordinating fabric panels. Unlike the Autumn version, however, the Christmas Rose Cushion is kept a little simpler and does not include piping. It is finished with a zipper in the bottom seam for easy removal of the cushion insert.
I think this would be gorgeous tucked onto a bench, bed or favourite chair for the winter season. And because the colours and botanical design are softer than a traditional Christmas cushion, it is one of those pieces you could easily leave out well beyond Christmas.
