One of the most extraordinary pieces in our Christmas Market—a tiny Christmas tree filled with hand-blown glass ornaments, set upon a traditional wind-up musical stand.
At only30 cm tall, this little tree may be petite, but there is an incredible amount of craftsmanship tucked into it.
The branches are filled with an assortment ofminiature hand-blown and hand-painted glass ornaments—tiny baubles, reflector ornaments, lanterns, finials and other wonderfully nostalgic shapes—along with sparkling tinsel, berries and charming old-world details. A delicate glass bird with a long spun-glass tail perches near the top, beneath a traditional glass finial.
But what makes this piece especially remarkable is the base.
The substantial silver-toned stand contains awind-up music mechanism that plays Christmas music, transforming the little tree into something much more than a decorative tabletop tree. It has the wonderful feeling of an old European Christmas treasure: intricate, slightly whimsical, and made to be brought out each December as part of the ritual of decorating for the season.
This is certainly an investment piece. Its value is in the extraordinary number of individually made details—the collection of miniature hand-blown and painted glass ornaments, the decorated tree itself, and particularly the traditional mechanical musical stand. It is less a simple tabletop tree and more a completeheirloom Christmas display.
Because the tree is designed to remain removable from its musical stand for storage, there isa little movement at the connection point when displayed. We want to mention this because of the special nature and value of the piece.
For additional stability during display, we recommend using avery small amount of removable museum putty at the connection point. This gives the tree a little extra support while still allowing it to be taken apart for safe seasonal storage.
This is an exceptionally delicate decorative piece containing numerous small glass ornaments. Please handle carefully when unpacking, displaying and storing.
The ornaments are handcrafted and hand-finished, so slight variations in painting, glass shape, colour and finishing are part of their character and should be expected.
