This is such a lovely winter quilt — soft, cozy and wonderfully simple in its construction, while still having that very special Acufactum look.
The centre of the quilt is made from the beautiful Winter Time Stripes fabric, allowing the illustrated motifs to really shine. Around it is a scrappy patchwork border made from a wonderfully coordinated mix of Emma Cocoa, Emma Thyme, red and white dots, Watercolor Green, Fine Stripes, anthracite stripes and soft taupe dots. The little squares are arranged around all four sides of the quilt, either randomly as shown in the book or in whatever combination you prefer.
I especially love the contrast between the large illustrated centre and that simple pieced border. It gives you the charm of a patchwork quilt without requiring hundreds of tiny pieces — and it is such a beautiful way to showcase the Winter Time fabric collection.
The back is made from cream bouclé plush, making this much more than a decorative quilt. It is wonderfully soft and cozy to curl up under during the colder months. The book suggests quilting along the stripes of the centre fabric and then stitching in the ditch around the centre and each of the patchwork squares, adding just enough quilting to give the finished quilt texture without taking away from the fabrics themselves.
Rather than a traditional binding, the quilt is finished with a neat facing, giving the front a clean, uninterrupted edge. Folded fabric triangles are also added at the four back corners as part of the finishing.
It really is the sort of quilt you want to keep folded over the back of a favourite chair or sofa all winter long. Acufactum describes it beautifully — a combination of coordinated winter fabrics with an irresistibly soft plush backing, made for cozy moments throughout the cold season.
